Blog Post #3
I would say that I have enjoyed my blogging experience so far. I like how my posts appear together on a feed where I can easily view all of my posts at once rather than having my submissions disbursed among several assignments. My sole complaint is that I have struggled with being able to switch between viewing and editing my blog with ease. Throughout the blogging process, I have learned about personal learning networks, the ISTE's Standards for Educators, and digital natives/digital immigrants.
Generative AI can be used by educators to personalize learning to fit the needs of each individual student, enhance creativity when brainstorming for assignments, and to foster engagement among students. The downsides of integrating AI into an academic setting include negative perceptions, lack of technology skills, an extensive list of ethical concerns, cost and availability of technology, and lack of research. Generative AI can be utilized as an assistant for writing assignments, generating visual aids, creating interactive learning activities, learning a new language, and for creating music and art projects. When using AI in an educational setting, it is important to establish ground rules to ensure that it is used properly and responsibly. In order to ensure that artificial intelligence is being utilized responsibly, clear guidelines must be put in place, usage among students should be closely monitored, critical thinking should be encouraged, and it should be integrated with curriculum to support it, not replace it.
I have not yet completed Participation Portfolio Item: Generative AI, nor do I plan to. I will be using my Participation Portfolio Item token to waive the assignment. Using generative AI goes against my morals and I wish to limit my use of it at all costs. The many ethical issues related to the use of AI have further lead to my disapproval of it, especially those related to its environmental impacts.
I do not anticipate using generative AI in my teaching practice. I do not believe that artificial intelligence belongs in any setting, let alone an educational setting. To address ethical concerns, I would refrain from using generative AI at all costs. I do not believe that the benefits of using artificial intelligence come anywhere close to outweighing the costs; therefore, I will not be using it as an educator nor will I tolerate the use of it by my students.
