Blog Post #5
By working on the Web Design assignment, I gained numerous skills that will be useful for my future as an educator. Some of the skills I learned from creating my own website include utilizing the Google Calendar feature, replacing long URLs with clickable text, and embedding social media platforms within a website. I utilized the design principle contrast by having dark text and light backgrounds throughout the entirety of my website. I ensured there was repetition throughout my website by utilizing the same fonts for all forms of text. I incorporated alignment into my website by utilizing columns to display text and photos. I took proximity into account when designing my website by differentiating separate information under different titles and columns. I enjoyed seeing the finished product of my website and was very pleased with the ease of using Weebly throughout the process of creation. There were a few instances where I could not place certain objects where I wanted them, which created frustration.
I may use QR codes in my classroom in the future in place of physical handouts for newsletters. Rather than handing out flyers that students are likely to either lose or ruin by the time the month has concluded, the link connected to a QR code can be stored on one's personal device. Personal devices are a lot less likely to be damaged or unable to be recovered than a physical piece of paper. QR codes can always be scanned again if one were to happen to lose the link connected to the QR code on their personal device.
IMPLEMENTING APPROPRIATE USE OF TECHNOLOGY: A CASE STUDY ON HOW
RURAL SECONDARY STUDENTS APPROACH DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP: https://digitalcommons.liberty.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=6155&context=doctoral
An ethical solution for solving the case study mentioned above would be to limit technology usage within the classroom to school-related activities only. By enacting school-wide or district-wide limitations to what websites students access, the problems that are outlined by the case study should see a decline. By eliminating non-educational websites such as social media and generative AI platforms from being accessed by students, cyberbullying and digital plagiarism can be avoided. It may also be beneficial to allocate resources to hold assemblies that address the reoccurring issues experienced by the schools, bringing awareness to these issues and establishing consequences for those that partake in wrongful use of technology.
